Grncarica – Archaeological site near the village Krupiste

Grncarica is archaeological site near the village Krupiste. It is early Neolithic settlement and also the oldest site in Southeast Europe.

On this location a Neolithic skeleton was found, named by the archaeologists as “Славе Македонски – Slave from Macedonia” (Slave – Macedonian name) which according to some analysis is approximately 6700 years old, which also makes it the oldest archaeological exhibit in Southeast Europe.
The skeleton was found in a typical position for burials in the Neolithic period, he was  buried on his  side, with his head close to the legs.
The archeological site is not is not suitable for tourist visits and the Neolithic skeleton is presented at the museum in Stip.
