In the period between the two world wars, the city held the role of an administrative center for Eastern Macedonia. Today also is a major crossroads and the largest city and industrial center in this part of the Republic of Macedonia.
The population consists mainly Macedonians (39,323), Roma (2,184), followed by Vlach (1,727), and Turks (877) Serbs (272).
Stip is the seat of the Municipality of Stip which covers an area of 58,324 ha, with 44 settlements and total of 47,796 inhabitants.
Developed industries in the city are the textile, footwear, metal and electrical. Stip has high school and three primary schools, and also within is located the University “Goce Delchev” Stip, ith many differen faculties.
It also has a museum, Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments, Historical Archives, Health Center.

If you are planning to visit Stip, you must visit the Isar Fortress, Memorial Monument of the Revolution, art gallery Bezisten, and churches St. Archangel, St. Spas, St. John, St. Holy Mary, Husamedin Pasha Mosque.
